Laura van der Heijden Lights up Lunchtime

If Nicola Benedetti’s career is anything to go by then we can expect great things from Laura van der Heijden, the BBC Young Musician 2012.

At the age of 15, her mesmerising performance of the rarely-played Walton Cello Concerto at the BBC Young Musician final cemented her position as one of the finest young musicians of her generation and a great musical star of tomorrow.

Therefore, we at Southern Sinfonia are understandably very excited that she will be opening our 2012/13 Café Concert Series, accompanied by Huw Watkins, on Friday 28 September 2012 at Corn Exchange, Newbury.

Presenting a stunning programme of JS Bach's Gamba Sonata No. 2 in D, Mendelssohn's Cello Sonata No.1 in B flat and Debussy's Cello Sonata (1915), this dazzling young cellist promises a lunchtime of pure escapism.

In readiness, we thought you might like to see her winning performance of Walton’s Cello Concerto at the BBC Young Musician 2012 final…
